Uncle Ralph’s Carrots: Report #3 🥕

What’s with the carrots?

🥕I watched Escape from New York and hated it. I should have loved it! John Carpenter directed, Kurt Russell starred….. I told Biscuit it sucked, and she wrote back to me, “I had to watch that piece of 💩 so it’s only fair that you had to endure it as well. It’s all about life Balance. 😂😂”

🥕 from Wikipedia on casting the voice actor, Lorenzo Music, to voice Garfield the cat in the animated series: “After one audition, Music was immediately cast as the voice of Garfield; in Davis’ words: ‘I looked at the room full of [voice] actors, and then in the corner I saw Lorenzo, quietly licking himself.”

🥕 While listening to the Evolution of Horror podcast, British guest Kevin Lyons said, “It’s like chalk and cheese, innit?” I about died laughing. I’d never heard such a phrase!

My niece loves spooky stuff. She says wore these socks to Thanksgiving because she knew I’d be there. 🥹
A gun store where, surprise!, you can also get coffee for $1.
Nick and I at a house that decorates like crazy, so you can walk around and look at things and get hot cocoa and a cookie.

  1. OH my, I had booked an event for 13 December and I knew it was a Friday but it hadn’t clicked.

I have had so many carrots this week, all being social events with old and new friends and connections. I’m not religious but if I were I’d say I feel blessed. There are so many wonderful people in the world.

    • I do hope you write a post about all the wonderful things that you’ve experienced this week. We need more of that, even on book plugs. I’m still trying to find the right word for blessed if you’re not religious, and I think maybe rejuvenated works. Or enriched. Or full? I know we’ve talked about this before lol.

  2. I really enjoyed your quotation about horses (sent it to my daughter’s partner, who owns horses) and I laughed out loud at the typo “get hit cocoa” because it gave me a vivid mental image of someone being hit with a cup of cocoa and startling, kind of like if you go to Lambert’s throwed rolls, which will be fairly near you when you move to Missouri!

    • Oh no! LOL I’ll fix that typo. As opposed to sitting down and writing this post in one go, I update it all week with things that I find that bring me joy. Therefore, typos are more likely to happen.

  3. I like your squirrel photo! He has a much fluffier tail than the squirrels we have here.

In terms of carrots, I went to see The Nutcracker for the first time on Saturday night! It was absolutely magical. I had never been to a ballet before, and the friend I went with had been once but in such cheap seats that she couldn’t really see the stage, so it was kind of a new experience for both of us. We enjoyed it so much that we spent the intermission looking up the theatre schedule so we could see when the ballet would be back in town next!

    • The squirrel was just hanging out right outside the exit door!

I love that you saw the ballet in person. We watched a version of the Nutcracker on YouTube in 2020 because we were working VERY hard to make everything seem as festive and not deadly as possible. What shows do you think you’ll see in the near future?

      • We talked about Swan Lake, which is coming in March! Waiting for my friend to see if she’s free. And I’ve just booked tickets for Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 for a couple of weeks – a musical, not a ballet, but I’m looking forward to it! (I go to the theatre fairly often now because cinemas are so expensive that it’s almost the same price to see live theatre, which I generally prefer).

  4. The cat pants got me! When Bruce has his emergency hospital visit he had his little arm shaved where they put in the IV and my husband called it his “bracelet.” You can barely tell now that he had one, but it looked kinda funny.

Carrot: Rewatching “The Holiday” for the first time in a long time and just loving it. Kate Winslet is a goddess and Jude Law is at his hottest. Plus, Rufus Sewell!

  5. Why does that cat with no pants make me so uncomfortable?😅 Friday the 13th comes the same weekend as the full moon! After years working in retail and with the public, the full moon is the only thing I’m superstitious about. All our craziest customers come visit us then!

  6. All of these memes and photos are so delightful. That squirrel looks like he’s about to have a conversation with you, he should be in a children’s picture book. $1 coffee with guns – is this why people are so obsessed with their guns in America? Because it equals cheap coffee? haha

The cat with no pants also makes me uncomfortable LOL
